I have recently got back into sewing and thought I would pursue a dream of mine I've had for sometime and turn that dream into a reality. I have always wanted to sew vintage clothes for myself, and I have in the past made a couple of vintage dresses for myself. However, nowadays I don't have the time or money to make these garments so what better way to fulfill that dream then making vintage clothes for my favourite doll Barbie.
I have been busy scouring the internet for patterns, upon doing so, I have come across many great websites and treasure troves of patterns. In fact, there is one website in particular that is like a goldmine for patterns (I was feeling a little giddy when I stumbled across this! as it made my mind boggle lol) that website is: Herbie's Doll Sewing, Knitting + Crochet Pattern Collection another fabulous website for vintage patterns is: Sewing and Pattern.
Anywho, without further ado, here are my first 2 vintage garments I have sewn.
The Dress and Hat
This is the first dress I have made Barbie. It is also the first time I have made a hat. Very fiddly work! The hat didn't quite turn out the way I hoped it would, but practice makes perfect so I believe!
The bodice pattern for this dress is from Sewing and Pattern the skirt pattern I made myself.
The Coat
The second garment I have made is the coat. I really jumped in the deep end here as I picked a hard fabric to sew! although I didn't realize it would be hard to sew when I picked the fabric. This made sewing the collar and neck facing a bit of a challenge due to the materiel pulling apart as I was sewing it. I did however persevere and managed to sew on the collar and neck facing. I must say, I love a good challenge!
