My Girl Midge

As a child I never owned a Midge doll, to be honest, I never knew she existed! I was strictly a "Barbie Girl" oh yes, I had Barbie, Barbie and...you guessed it BARBIE.

Once I became a collector, I soon discovered Midge and need I say, she quickly became my favourite doll out of the Barbie family.

To my understanding, when Midge first came out in 1963 she was not as popular as Barbie and never would be. She was deemed as "ugly" to some. Her face wasn't as pretty as her counterpart Barbie, she didn't have long lushes locks like a Swirl ponytail  and what about those freckles!

What about those freckles? Well, to me those freckles are what makes Midge stand out (there have been freckless versions found.) She has a girl next door kinda face that is oh so super cute. Once I clapped eyes on a vintage Midge, I just had to have one in my collection. I was lucky enough to receive my vintage Midge as a birthday gift. She was found on eBay. She belonged to a lady from Ohio whom had owned her since childhood. She is now at home in New Zealand among a small collection of other vintage Barbies that seems to be growing...

Midge came in her original box complete with stand
and white mules. No booklet or wrist tag where present.

This Midge was well looked after by her childhood owner.
Face paint is in pristine condition.

Finger nail paint is still intact

Midge and her soulmate Allan

Vintage Midge however, was not the first Midge to join my collection. 1988's Cool Times Midge was indeed the first Midge doll I ever owned. I got her for Christmas the first year I started collecting Barbies which must of been around 1996/97. She was purchased from an antique store called The Old Tin Toy Shop. I was over the moon to finally have a Midge doll ! Cool Times Midge is in good condition (although her hair is a bit wild!) and even came with the cardboard cutouts!

Now, who doesn't love a good wedding? You guessed it, Wedding Day Midge and Alan (You'll notice here the second "l" in Alan's name has be dropped) are also part of my Midge collection.

Good golly day! whom would have thought that Midge and Alan would have a baby. Out of all the careers and journeys that Barbie has been on, one would think that Barbie and Ken would have had a baby by now, but no, its Barbies best friend Midge whom has had a baby.  The controversial Happy Family pregnant Midge was a doll I have always wanted and finally joined my collection in 2016 along side a couple of other Happy Family dolls.

As you can see through the years, Midge has come a long way. That cute "girl next door" face has grown prettier over time and she's married with a baby now. Midge will always be a favourite of mine.
